Back in my day the online medium was unspecified
A meta-post or something that quacks like one
Back in my day on LiveJournal everything was a post. We didn’t have notes or stories. You could have a short post or a long post and they would be different and the difference was palpable because of the medium being drastically unspecified.
The unspecificity of the medium was high. I wouldn’t say it was more abstract, though, because it was really quite concrete, yet unspecifiedly so. Abstraction really is specificity, although it is often thought of as the opposite of that, which is superficially compelling but really doesn’t hold up under scrutiny.
